Our Story

America's Coffee Roaster Since 1997

We're not a warehouse. We're not a reseller. We're a working roastery in Tyler, Texas — and every bag of coffee we sell is roasted right here, in small batches, by people who care about the craft.

How It Started
Founded by Ray & Sandy Johnson

After years working in the specialty coffee industry — cupping, tasting, roasting, product development, and marketing — Ray and Sandy Johnson decided to start their own roasting company. In 1997, Coffee City USA was born in Tyler, Texas.

Together, they built the business from the ground up. They developed a deep understanding of what quality coffee is and the characteristics of each origin. They helped create a number of today's top-selling flavored coffees in the industry. From the beginning, the promise was simple: coffee roasted daily, flavored to order, with the personal service customers deserve.

After building Coffee City USA for nearly two decades, Ray and Sandy retired, passing the roastery on to continue their legacy of quality and craft.

Jeff's homework A couple of things to fill in here:

• Anything else you'd like to add about Ray & Sandy's early years?
• When and how did you come into the picture?
• What was the transition like?
• What's your background — were you in coffee before, or did you come from somewhere else?
• What's stayed the same since the beginning, and what have you changed or grown?

2-3 paragraphs in your own words. We'll edit — just get the story down.

Our Process
How We Roast

Every bag of Coffee City USA coffee follows the same process — from sourcing to your doorstep.

01
Source
We source 100% Arabica beans from the world's top growing regions. No fillers, no blending down.
Jeff's homeworkWhere do you source beans? Any specific regions or relationships you want to highlight?
02
Roast
Small-batch roasted in our Tyler, Texas facility. Every roast is monitored for consistency and quality.
Jeff's homeworkWhat type of roaster do you use? Batch size? What makes your approach different? Any details on roast profiles?
03
Rest & Pack
After roasting, beans are rested to allow degassing, then packed in valve-sealed bags to lock in freshness.
Jeff's homeworkHow long do you rest beans before packing? What kind of bags/valves do you use? Any freshness guarantees?
04
Grind (Optional)
Whole bean or ground to order — drip, coarse, fine, or espresso grind. We grind at the time of packing, not weeks in advance.
05
Ship
Most orders ship within 1–2 business days of roasting. Your coffee was roasted this week, not last month.
06
Enjoy
From our roastery to your kitchen — no warehouse, no middleman, no sitting on a shelf. That's the Coffee City USA difference.
